Sauntry Leads SFA To Second Place Finish

HUNTSVILLE, Texas -- Senior Trevor Sauntry shot an even par round of 72 Saturday in the final round of the Bearkat Classic at Raven's nest Golf Club in Huntsville to take medalist honors in the event. Sauntry finished one stroke ahead of Brian Norman of Southern Illinois with a 54-hole total of 214 following rounds of 69-73-72.
Dustin Byrd tied for fourth after shooting the low round of the day with a 71 Saturday and finished four strokes behind Sauntry at 218 (73-74-71).
The 'Jacks moved past William & Mary in Saturday's final round to finish second behind McNeese State in the 17-team event. Sam Houston finished third four shots back of the Lumberjacks, with Southern Illinois and William & Mary rounding out the top five.
SFA shot a team total 885 for the 54-hole event, 10 shots back of team champion McNeese State.
Brian Grossman finished in a tie for 25th place with rounds of 79-69-79, 227. Jeremy Ice shot rounds of 77-73-79 to finish in a tie for 34th and James McLeod shot rounds of 76-75-81 to finish at 232 in a tie for 48th.
The Lumberjacks return to action Monday at the Carter Plantation Intercollegiate hosted by Southeastern Louisiana University Monday and Tuesday in Springfield, La.
