NACOGDOCHES - Another slow start from the floor comes back to haunt the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team as SFA lost to Texas-Arlington, 64-38, Thursday night at the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The Ladyjacks are now 12-12 (.500) on the season and 6-7 (.462) in Southland Conference play.
SFA opened the game with a three-pointer from senior Alex Bowman to take the first lead of the game, but the Lady Mavs responded by going on a 15-2 over the next 3:31 of the game to take a 15-5 lead. UTA went into halftime with a 14-point lead, 35-21, behind 12 points from Rola Ogunoye and Tabitha Wesley.
It was more of the same in the second half as the Lady Mavs held SFA to a 5-of-21 (.238) shooting performance in the half while forcing the Ladyjacks into 19 turnovers for the game. The Lady Mavs' defense didn't allow any Ladyjack to reach double-figures in points as Bowman led the way with seven points.
Junior Natalie Kizzee scored three points and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. Both junior Kirby Killingsworth and freshman Shanae Green added six points in the game.
The Ladyjacks will look to get back on the winning track Saturday when they travel to Natchitoches, La., to face rival Northwestern State. The game against the Lady Demons is slated to begin at 2 p.m., from Prather Coliseum.
