LAKE CHARLES, LA. -- The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks (12-10,6-5) saw a brief two-game winning streak come to an end Wednesday night at the hands of the Cowgirls of McNeese State (6-16, 5-6). McNeese State built a 13-point lead at the half and held on in the second half for a 71-53 win over SFA. The Ladyjacks have dropped four of the last five meetings between the two teams.
SFA suffered through a terrible first half of shooting, connecting on just 20-percent of its first half attempts and trailed 35-22 at the break. The Ladyjacks shot the ball a little better in the second half, but it wasn't enough as McNeese State withstood a Ladyjack challenge mindway through the second half.
The Ladyjacks stepped up their defensive pressure for a bit and cut what had been a 15-point deficit to only seven points, but McNeese State answered the rally with one of its own to quickly stretch the lead back to double digits and the Ladyjacks weren't able to mount another serious challenge.
SFA ended the game shooting just 31-percent from the field (18-58) and was just 3-15 from beyond the three point arc. McNeese State shot 43-percent for the game (27-63), but was only 2-8 (.250) from outside the stripe. McNeese State outrebounded SFA 45-40 for the game.
Stacy Szymanksi led SFA with 14 points while Britany Vinson added 11. Kirby Killingsworth fouled out with nine points. Regina SPivey led McNeese State with a game high 17-points.
