TULSA, Okla. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team lost to Tulsa, 73-66, Wednesday night at the Reynolds Center in Tulsa, Okla. The loss dropped SFA to 5-5 (.500) on the season, while improving Tulsa to 7-2 (.778).
Despite not having the services of leading scorer and rebounder LaToya Mills for the final 16 minutes of the first half the Ladyjacks trailed by only a point, 33-32, at halftime due to a strong performance from beyond the three-point arc. The Ladyjacks connected on their first five three pointers of the game.
But Tulsa went on a 10-2 run in the second half, sparked by Megan Moody's game-high 26 points on 10-of-22 shooting, to open up a nine point advantage, 43-34, with 17:34 remaining. The Ladyjacks battled back to within three points on a couple of occasions, but Tulsa was able to hold off the Ladyjacks by dominating the glass, 50-33, and by hitting their free throws, 22-for-31 (.710). The Ladyjacks were held to a 3-of-9 (.333) performance at the charity stripe.
The Ladyjacks finished the game 26-of-65 (.400), which included an 11-for-22 (.500) performance from beyond the arc. Sophomore Nikki Carr led the Ladyjacks' three-point attack finishing the game with 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc. Carr also dished out a career-high nine assists.
Senior Britany Vinson led SFA with 15 points and five assists, while classmate Kirby Killingsworth added 11 points. Senior Kendria Smith scored 10 points and pulled down four rebounds.
The Ladyjacks return to action Friday Dec. 30 when they host Jackson State. The game against JSU is slated to begin at 7 p.m., from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
