NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Led by a dominant performance from its frontcourt, the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack basketball team rolled to a 101-48 victory over Paul Quinn College, Saturday in the William R. Johnson Coliseum. Forwards Antuane Miller, Anthony Paez and Matt Kingsley combined for 54 points to lead the Lumberjacks to their largest margin of victory since 2003.
After a brief run by Paul Quinn (0-10) to give the Tigers an early 7-6 lead, SFA (6-2) snuffed out any chance for an upset by sending the ball inside. The Lumberjacks scored 14 of their next 17 points in the paint to go up, 29-11, with 9:58 left in the first half. Paul Quinn could find no answer for SFA's inside game, and the Lumberjacks would go on to score 70 points in the paint, led by Miller's 19. The junior forward hit 9-of-16 shots and grabbed eight rebounds.
Kingsley, a redshirt freshman was next in line with 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting. He also grabbed 10 rebounds to record his first career double-double. Paez, a senior, hit 8-of-9 from the field and finished with 17 points. Freshman Josh Alexander scored 13 points and added 10 rebounds for his first career double-double, and junior guard Chaz Dykes rounded out the SFA double-figure scorers with 10 points.
Junior guard Keith Hardaway added eight points and three assists, and forwards Todd Henry and Jerel Hastings chipped in with six points apiece. Henry also had three assists. Senior guard Marcus Clark dished out four assists, and sophomore guard Gerald Fonzie passed out five.
The Lumberjacks held Paul Quinn to 28.6 percent shooting. The Tigers' only double-digit scorers were Demetrices Edwards (11) and Damien Chisholm (10). The game marked the first time SFA has held an opponent under 50 points since last year's 87-47 win over Houston Baptist.
The Lumberjacks extended their win streak to three and improved their home record to 5-0. SFA will wrap up its longest home stand of the season on Tuesday, Dec. 20, when the Lumberjacks host Texas-Pan American. The game is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. in the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
