MONROE, La. - The Stephen F. Austin golf team had three among the field's top 15 after the first day of competition at the ULM/Fred Marx Invitational Monday afternoon. The `Jacks enter the play Tuesday in second place (300-292--590), only a stroke back of the leader McNeese State, who shot a 297-292--589 Monday afternoon.
Trevor Sauntry paced the Lumberjacks with his 73-71 to shoot an even par 144 after the first day. Sauntry is currently tied for second. Teammate Dustin Byrd is only a stroke off Sauntry's pace with a first round score of 75-70--145. Byrd is currently in a three-way tie for fifth. Jeremy Ice finished the first day tied for 15th with his five over par 76-73--149. Brian Grossman is currently tied for 28th but sits only four strokes back of Ice, with a first day score of 76-77--153. Chad Spencer is currently tied for 55th with his first day score of 82-76--158.
The Lumberjacks return to action Tuesday morning for the final round of action at the ULM/Fred Marx Invitational at the Bayou DeSiard Country Club.
