
'Jacks Back In Action At ULM-Fred Marx Invitational

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team returns to action Monday and Tuesday at the UL-Monroe/Fred Marx Invitational Collegiate Golf Tournament, in Monroe, La. The 'Jacks finished third at the event a year ago, finishing eight shots back of tournament winner Middle Tennessee and one shot behind second place, UL-Monroe.
Brian Grossman claimed the individual title last year with rounds of 72-70-74 to finish three shots ahead of UL-Monroe's Chris Cooper. Grossman won two tournaments last season as a sophomore and posted five top-10 finishes.
SFA opened the 2004 fall season with a tie for second place at the North Texas Mean Green Classic two weeks ago. The University of Houston won the event with the 'Jacks finishing 10 shots back tied with host team, North Texas.
Grossman posted another top-5 finish with rounds of 71-70-76 to finish in a tie for third. Freshman Chad Spencer, playing in his first college tournament finished seventh with rounds of 72-72-74.
The 'Jacks enter this week's tournament ranked 33rd in the nation among Division I golf teams in a ranking by Golfweek. UT-Arlington is the only Southland team ranked ahead of the 'Jacks in this week's ranking with Lamar and UL-Monroe the only others ranked among the top-50.
