NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team ran through a 50-play scrimmage to close out Saturday night's practice and the first week of fall camp, Saturday night in Homer Bryce Stadium. The short scrimmage was the first of the fall and served as a brief rehearsal for what will be the first full scrimmage of the fall next weekend. "We saw some good things and saw some things we need to work on in that short scrimmage. We did some things well and did some things we can't do and expect to win later on," said head coach Mike Santiago. "Overall, I was pleased with the scrimmage and saw some good things out of some of the younger guys." Santiago said he was very impressed with the running of freshman running back Louie Runnels of Bellville and also pleased with the play of receiver Cedric Reescano, a redshirt freshman from Hardin. He was concerned with two turnovers inside the 20-yard line. The 'Jacks were a little shorthanded during Saturday's two practices with a handful of players out with minor injuries and also three players absent attending funerals. Ryan Luedecke missed Saturday morning attending the funeral of a former high school teammate and UNT quarterback Andrew Smith. Smith was killed last week in an automaobile accident on his way to Denton. Michael Williams and Ron Middleton also missed time attending funerals. Media Day will take place Sunday evening following a two hour afternoon practice.
