NACOGDOCHES, Texas-- Former Lumberjacks Brent Hafford and David Phillips have agreed to terms on free agent deals with NFL teams. Hafford will report to the New Orleans Saints for a rookie mini-camp later this week and Phillips has agreed to a deal with the Buffalo Bills. Hafford spent four seasons with the 'Jacks after a stellar career at Jasper High School. Phillips was a two-time all-conference tackle from Kemp.
Hafford was the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2003 and was also a consensus First Team All-America selection after finishing the 2003 season with 102 tackles and a team high five interceptions. Hafford recorded 215 tackles over the past two seasons and was a dominant force for the 'Jacks in 2003.
Phillips agreed to terms with the Bills following Sunday's draft and will report to Buffalo later this week for a rookie mini-camp. The 6-5, 300-pound offensive tackle started the final 33 games of his SFA career and did not allow a sack over the past two seasons. He was also a first team all-conference and Region VI CoSIDA Academic All-America selection in 2003.
A third senior from last season's team, David Crocker was reportedly close to signing a free agent deal with an NFL team late Monday afternoon.
