Ladyjacks Defeat UTPA

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack tennis team pounded Texas-Pan American, 6-1, Sunday afternoon at the SFA Tennis Courts. The Ladyjacks are now 2-1 (.667) on the season.
The Ladyjacks dominated the doubles play, sweeping all three matches to win the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead. Junior Robin Houston increased the SFA advantage to 2-0 when she defeated the Lady Broncs' Vanessa Hedinger, 4-6, 6-3 (8), at No. 1 singles. Freshmen Laura Harrison and Lauren Nowicki followed with victories at Nos. 2 and 3 singles, respectively, to give SFA a 4-0 lead.
UTPA could only muster one victory in the final three singles matches as freshman Kama Scott beat UTPA's Natalie Gonzalez, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 5 singles. Junior Melissa Bass picked up the Ladyjacks final singles victory of the afternoon with her 6-1, 6-0, win over Jessica Chavez at No. 6 singles.
The Ladyjacks return to action Friday Feb. 20th, when they travel to Abilene, Texas, to take on Abilene Christian. The match is slated to begin at 12:30 p.m.
