
Williams Among Finalists For Wooden Trophy

Former Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack quarerback Michael Williams is among six finalists for the inaugural Wooden Cup Trophy, to be presented by Athleties For A Better World, Jan. 10 in Los Angeles.
The award is presented to a student-athlete at the college level and a professional athlete honoring their character, sportsmanship and civic contributions. Williams, a two-time all-conference performer for the 'Jacks is among a group of six finalists in the university division which includes; Bill Betz, Brigham Young University; Dionnah Jackson, University of Oklahoma; Clark Lea, Vanderbilt University; Caroline Renkin, UNC-Wilmington; and DeAngelo Williams, University of Memphis.
Included among the finalists for the professional athlete award are: Ray Allen, Seattle Supersonics; Sue Bird, Seattle Storm; Tim Duncan, San Antonio Spurs; Peyton Manning, Indianapolis Colts; Will SHields, Kansas City Chiefs; and Dawn Staley, Charlotte Sting.
The ceremony will take place Jan. 10 at the Millenium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles, Calif. with former UCLA baksetball coach John Wooden to present the trophy.
