
Golf Finishes Third At Squire Creek

CHOUDRANT, La. -- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team shot a final round 303 Tuesday at the Squire Creek Intercollegiate hosted by Louisiana Tech University to finish in third place behind tournament champion, UT-Arlington and runner-up University of Houston. The `Jacks finished with a three round total of 29 over par, 893, 14 shots back of UT-Arlington which shot rounds of 297-290-292 to finish at 879. The Cougars shot a final round 290 to overtake the Lumberjacks and move into second place. SFA has finished third or higher in each of its four events so far this fall.
Trevor Sauntry, a senior from Missouri City, was the top finisher for the Lumberjacks posting his second straight top-five finish with a fourth place showing at Squire Creek. Sauntry finished the 54-hole event at one over par, 217 following rounds of 71-72-74.
Jeremy Ice, a senior from Pflugerville, finished in a tie for 27th following a final round 77. He finished at 226 following opening day rounds of 74-75. James McLeod bounced back Tuesday to shoot a 75 and finished at 12 over par, 228. Dustin Byrd faltered Tuesday and shot an 81 to fall into a tie for 38th following rounds of 74-75-81, and Brian Grossman finished just behind with rounds of 78-76-77.
There were seven Southland Conference schools in the event with the `Jacks finishing ahead of five of the six other teams in the field. SFA returns to action next week at the Shangri-La Shootout, hosted by Oral Roberts University in Monkey Island, Okla. ™
