
Ladyjacks Have A Big Opening Day at Lamar

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack tennis team concluded the first day of the Lamar Invitational, in Beaumont, Texas, placing two players in the finals in singles and two doubles teams in the semifinals.
Freshman Whitney DeYoung defeated Southeastern Louisiana's Vanessa Wong (6-2, 2-6, 10-7) and teammate Melissa Bass (6-4, 6-4) to advance to the finals. DeYoung will face McNeese State's Allison Lui today in the flight 7 singles championships.
Jennifer Cline advanced to the championship match of flight 8 singles by defeating Southeastern Louisiana's Laura Basirico, 6-1, 6-3, in the first round. Cline came right back and outlasted Cathy Shelander, 7-5, 6-3, to advance to Saturday's final against Texas-Pan American's Alana Breen.
In doubles play, the duo of Cline and DeYoung advanced to the semifinals in flight 4 doubles. They will be joined by Emily Voss and Ashley Johnson who recorded an 8-2 victory over Lee College to advance to the semifinals.
