CLOSING OUT 2003: The Lumberjacks play the fourth game of a five game homestand Tuesday night following an eight day layoff, hosting the Cameron Aggies of the Lone Star Conference. The 'Jacks are 3-0 so far on the current homestand and have extended the coliseum floor win streak to a record 19 straight games. With a win Tuesday night, SFA can get off to its best start since a 7-3 start to open the 1995-96 season. Tuesday night's game also marks the final game of 2003 for the Lumberjacks and the next to last non-conference game of the season. The 'Jacks are 12-5 over the past two seasons in non-conference play.
LAST GAME: SFA got 17 points each from G Marcus Clark and F Dedrick Sanders and a double-double from C Taylor Moore in handing Centenary a 70-58 loss. Moore posted his first career double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds and also joined G Jasen Gast (12 points) and F Antonio Burks (10 points) as Lumberjacks in double figure scoring. SFA led 29-26 at the half, but came out in the second half of play and opened with a 14-5 run to build a 12 point lead. SFA shot an even 60 percent in the second half while holding Centenary to only .326 from the field for the game. SFA did not shoot well from outside connecting on only one of 12 three point attempts, but dominated played inside outscoring the Gents 34-18 in the paint.
VS. CAMERON: SFA leads the series 5-1 and has won four straight over the Aggies. The 'Jacks are 4-0 against Cameron in Nacogdoches and suffered the only loss in the series (68-87) in the 1974-75 season at the Southwestern Classic in Weatherford, Okla. The teams met three times that year with SFA winning two of the three. SFA last played the Aggies to open the 1995-96 season with the 'Jacks posting a 90-71 win in the coliseum.
CAMERON: The Cameron Aggies of the Lone Star Conference enter the game with a 5-4 record and have not played since an 88-84 win over Missouri Western, Dec. 20. That win snapped a three game losing skid for the Aggies. F Chad Crawford leads the Aggies in scoring and rebounding averaging 17.6 ppg and 7.1 rpg. He has been the LSC Player of the Week twice so far this season. As a team, the Aggies are shooting .493 from the floor and .404 from beyond the three point stripe. Cameron is averaging 73.1 ppg while allowing opponents an average of 70.7 ppg. The Aggies are also outrebounding their opponents by an average of 1.6 rebounds per game.
THE COACHES: The Lumberjacks are coached by Danny Kaspar (269-94) in his fourth year with the Lumberjacks. Kaspar is 50-42 at SFA. The fourth year head coach tied Stan McKewen on the all-time wins list in seventh place, at 50 with last week's win over Centenary. Next on the list is Glen Rose with 56 wins at SFA. The Aggies are coached by Garrette Mantle (43-70) in his fifth season at Cameron.
UP NEXT: SFA closes out non-conference play after the first of the year, hosting Lyon College Jan. 3. The 'Jacks then open Southland Conference play Jan. 8 at Northwestern State, before returning home to host McNeese State a week later.
