SFA Rolls Past Baylor, 79-57

WACO, Texas - Stephen F. Austin held Baylor to just 28 percent shooting in the first half and held on to beat the Bears 79-57 Tuesday night at the Ferrell Center.
SFA (2-0) outscored the Bears 38-15 in the first half, holding Baylor (1-1) to just 28 percent shooting. The Bears got things back on track in the second half, but were unable to cut into the Lumberjacks' lead as SFA held the hot hand.
Antonio Burks set a new career high with 28 points against the Bears, with 18 coming in the second half of play. Burks finished the night 11-17 from the field and 6-8 from beyond the three point stripe. Baylor opened the game in a zone defense and Burks had open shots from outside throughout.
Jasen Gast added 12 points for SFA with B.J. Banks adding 11 and Hank Rivers chipping in 10. Burks also led the team with six rebounds. The 'Jacks were outrebounded in the contest 32-26, but shot .566 (30-53) from the field to offset the edge in Baylor rebounding. The 'Jacks also forced 24 Baylor turnovers, turning them into 34 points.
Senior Terrance Thomas led the Bears in scoring for the second game in a row, hitting for a career-high 22 points and adding six rebounds. Ellis Kidd Jr. scored a career-best 13 points, but he and Thomas were the only Baylor players to reach double-digits after six Bears did so in the season opener.
Senior Matt Sayman pulled down a career-high seven rebounds to pace the team, but was just 2-of-10 from the field.
NOTES: The Bears' 15 points in the first half marked the fourth-lowest scoring period in Baylor history... The 22-point margin of defeat was Baylor's largest in a non-conference game since suffering a 99-75 loss at TCU on Dec. 13, 1997.
