
Rossner Named Special Teams Player Of The Week

PLANO, Texas - For the third time in four weeks, Roderick Royal of McNeese State University has been named Southland Conference defensive player of the week. The honor comes after leading his Cowboys to a 63-28, championship clinching win at Nicholls State on Saturday. In addition, Texas State's Terrell Harris used a 246-yard rushing effort to pick up the offensive honor. Ryan Rossner of Stephen F. Austin is the special teams recipient after scoring 14 points in a win over Northwestern State. Southland Conference Players of the Week
Offense
Terrell Harris, Texas State, Jr., RB, 5-11, 235, Kerens, Texas -- Harris ran for a career-best 246 yards on 28 carries as the Bobcats erupted for 49 points in a 49-28 season-ending win over Sam Houston State. Harris' 246-yard mark ranks sixth all-time on the single game rushing list at Texas State. It bettered his 166-yard performance last fall against Jacksonville State. Of his 28 carries, 11 went for first downs for the Bobcats on a night where they ran for a season-high 405 yards.
Defense
Roderick Royal, McNeese State, Sr., LB, 6-1, 241, Baton Rouge, La. -- Royal led the Cowboys' defense in a 63-28 victory over Nicholls State with a game-high 15 tackles (7 solos). He had four tackles for loss of 25 yards, one quarterback hurry and caused a fumble that was picked up and returned 72 yards for a touchdown by teammate Stephen Barrett. That came with 11 seconds left in the third period, putting the Cowboys up 42-21 to put the game out of reach.
Special Teams
Ryan Rossner, Stephen F. Austin, Jr., K, 6-3, 230, Metairie, La. -- Rossner was a perfect 3-for-3 on field goal attempts in a 44-14 win against Northwestern State, connecting from 44, 36 and 25 yards. He also was 5-for-5 on extra-point attempts against the Demons.
HONOR ROLL OFFENSE
Scott Pendarvis, McN, Jr., QB, 6-3, 221, Walker, La.-- Pendarvis completed 11-of-13 passes for 258 yards and four touchdowns in leading McNeese State to a 63-28 victory over Nicholls State and to a Southland Conference title. He had touchdown throws of 67, 4, 37 and 36 yards.
Michael Williams, SFA, Jr., QB, 6-0, 196, Houston, Texas -- Williams led the Lumberjacks to a 44-14 win over Northwestern State with two passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown. Williams ended the day 10-18-1 for an even 200 yards and two TDs. He also added 11 carries for 64 yards and a touchdown.
DEFENSE
Jamaal Cato, SFA, Sr., CB, 5-9, 180, Copperas Cove, Texas -- Cato closed out the 2003 season with a 10-tackle effort against Northwestern State. Cato had eight solo stops and two assists to go along with an interception and a pass break up.
Harold Watson, TXST, Sr., S, 5-9, 185, Austin, Texas -- Watson put together his best performance in his final game as a Bobcat. Though he had but four tackles on the night, the safety made two of the biggest plays in the 49-28 win. With the 'Cats up by seven, 21-14, midway through the third period, Watson took a fumbled Sam Houston handoff and ran it back 18 yards to give Texas State a two touchdown lead. On the very next drive as Sam Houston tried to get back in the game, he picked off a Wade Pate pass in Bobcat territory to put down a Bearkat comeback try. Watson added three pass breakups on the night.
