NATCHITOCHES, La. (AP) - Michael Williams threw for 200 yards and accounted for three touchdowns as Stephen F. Austin took a 44-14 victory over Northwestern State on Saturday.
The victory was the fifth in the last six games for the Lumberjacks (7-4,4-1). The win also snapped a two game losing streak to the Demons.
Northwestern (6-6, 1-4) took an early 7-0 lead when Davon Vinson scored on a quarterback keeper from 1 yard out. That touchdown was set up following an interception ny Neil Ponstein at the seven yard line. He returned the ball to the two to set up the score.
SFA then scored the next 34 points, beginning with a touchdown passes of 7 yards to Matt Bodley and 16 yards to Kevin Landry.
Landry also had a 42-yard reception in the game. Michael David caught four passes for 94 yards, while Chance Dennis caught three passes for 91 yards.
Williams, who rushed for 64 yards, made the score 21-7 when he scored on a 1-yard run.
Cliff Edwards had touchdown runs of 1 and 34 yards, and Ryan Rossner had field goals of 44, 36, and 25 yards.
SFA outgained Northwestern on the ground, 191 yards to 126.
Northwestern's other touchdown came on a 2-yard run by Issa Banna that made the score 34-14 late in the third quarter.
Vinson was 15-of-31 passing for 169 yards for the Demons. He also was his team's leading rusher with 37 yards on 16 carries.
SFA moved past Northwestern State in scoring defense with the 44-14 win. The Demons had allowed opponents an average of just over 20 points per game.
