Fort Lauderdale, November 18, 2003 - Nine additional players have been named to the rosters of the inaugural I-AA All-Star Classic, presented by American Airlines, bringing the total to 95 of the ultimate 100. The game will be broadcast to more than 28 million homes in the US through TFN's own carriage, and agreements with six major Fox Sports regional cable stations. The game will be played on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003 at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
A percentage of every ticket sold will benefit the Eddie Robinson and Walter Payton Foundations, as well as the Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel Children's Fund.
The players, all seniors, come from the 13 participating conferences for the game, to be staged and televised by TFN, The Football Network, on December 30, from Lockhart Stadium in Ft. Lauderdale.
Lumberjack senior defensive back David Crocker is among the most recent players added to the roster for the game. Crocker is currently second in tackles for the Lumberjacks with 104 tackles. He has eight tackles for losses (-29) and one sack (-11). Crocker has also recorded six passes defended.
The players will be divided into two squads, named for I-AA legends Walter Payton and Eddie Robinson, and will, for the first time in their careers, have the vehicle of a post-season game to showcase their talents. Scouts from all NFL teams are expected to attend. A large contingent of I-AA players typically enter the NFL each year, including, among active players, Pro Bowl-selections Randy Moss, Kurt Warner and Rich Gannon.
Coaches are Tommy Tate of McNeese State, and David Elson of Western Kentucky. These were the two schools that played for the I-AA NCAA championship last year.
The final selections will be announced next week.
