
Crocker Earns SLC Player of the Week Honors

Derrick Johnese and David Pittman of Northwestern State and David Crocker of Stephen F. Austin have been named Southland Conference football players of the week. Johnese and Pittman helped Northwestern State to a record-breaking 87-27 win over Southeastern Louisiana while Crocker led the Lumberjacks to a 35-13 win at Florida International. Following is a look at their performances along with others nominate for the weekly awards. Southland Conference Players of the Week
Offense
Derrick Johnese, Northwestern State, JR., TB, 5-9, 207, Baton Rouge, La. Johnese ran for 145 yards and two touchdowns (25, 82 yards) on 15 carries as the Demons broke the Southland Conference single-game scoring record in an 87-27 win over visiting Southeastern Louisiana.
Defense
David Crocker, Stephen F. Austin, Sr., S, 5-11, 200, Killeen, Texas Crocker led all tacklers in Stephen F. Austin's 35-13 win at Florida International on Thursday with 12 tackles (seven solos and five assists). Among his 12 stops were two tackles for losses (-6 yards) and he also added a pass break up. It was Crocker's second straight 10+ tackle game of the year.
Special Teams
David Pittman, Northwestern State, So., CB, 6-0, 160, Grammercy, La. Pittman scored two touchdowns, including a 62-yard return of a blocked field goal, in the Demons' 87-27 win over Southeastern Louisiana. He also had a weaving 69-yard interception return for a TD on the final play of the first half for a 45-15 NSU lead, and added one tackle.
HONOR ROLL
OFFENSE
Cliff Edwards, SFA, So., RB, 5-11, 188, Tyler, Texas
Edwards posted the first 100-yard rushing game of his career with a game high 124 yards on 22 carries against Florida International in SFA's 35-13 win. Edwards also scored twice on runs of one and two yards.
DEFENSE
Bruce Woods, NWLa., So., S, 6-3, 192, Baton Rouge, La.
Woods returned a pair of interceptions for fourth-quarter touchdowns (8, 37 yards) while making six tackles and getting two pass breakups on 21 total plays as Northwestern scored five defensive touchdowns in a record-shattering 87-27 win over Southeastern Louisiana.
SPECIAL TEAMS
Tommy Hebert, NWLa., Jr., K , 5-10, 171, Opelousas, La.
Set SLC record with 12 (12 for 12) extra points and tied NSU kick-scoring record with 15 points, adding a first-half 37-yard field goal on his only attempt, in the record-breaking 87-27 win over Southeastern Louisiana. Also added kickoff duties to his workload.
Ryan Smith, SFA, So., DE, 6-3, 225, Newton, Texas
Smith picked up his second blocked punt of the year on the first punt of the night for FIU. Smith also had three tackles, two TFL (-12), two sacks and four quarterback hurries.
