NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Stephen F. Austin head athletic trainer Sandy Miller has been selected for induction into the National Athletic Trainers' Association Hall of Fame in ceremonies later this summer.
Miller, the head athletic trainer at SFA since 1981, was inducted in the Southwestern Athletic Trainers' Association Hall of Fame several years ago and will be included among the 2002 class of inductees into the NATA Hall of Fame at the 53rd Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposia in Dallas, June 17.
Each member of the induction class has a minimum of at least 25 years of service and leadership in the athletic training field.
"Dedication, innovation, loyalty and leadership are common traits among Hall of Fame members. Those who receive the honor serve as an inspiration to their peers and as role models to the next generation of certified athletic trainers," said NATA Executive Director Eve Becker-Doyle, CAE.
"Sandy is deeply deserving of this honor,"said NATA Honors and Awards Committee Chair Jack Baynes, ATC. "He has dedicated his career to the betterment of the athletic training profession in Texas, Missouri and across the nation."
A native of Larned, Kansas, Miller came to SFA in 1981 after serving five seasons as the head athletic trainer at Northwest Missouri State. He currently serves on the board of directors of the National Athletic Trainers' Association, representing Texas and Arkansas. He has served on the athletic training staff at the 1990 Goodwill Games and the U.S. Olympic Training Center, as well as serving as the athletic trainer for USA Track and Field at the World Championships in Sweden in 1995.
The National Athletic Trainers' Association was founded in 1950 and today serves nearly 29,000 members, including 21,000 certified athletic trainers. Athletic training is recognized by the American medical Association as an allied health care profession, and its practitioners are the leading experts in health care for the physically active.
