
`Jacks Finish Sixth at SLC Championships

CANTON, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team shot a final-round 304 Wednesday to improve one spot and finish sixth at the Southland Conference Golf Championships. Lamar shot an 882 to win the SLC title.
Freshman Trevor Sauntry led the way for SFA shooting a two-under par 70 on the final day of competition. He finished the championships with a 73-74-70-217 to place second overall, only one stroke off of SLC individual champion Mark Van Hoose (Lamar). Senior Jason Alexander finished 11 strokes back of Sauntry with his 75-76-77-228. Alexander's 228 score placed him 22nd overall. Senior Brent Gurley finished in a four-way tie for 32nd with his three-day score of 237. Junior Walt Schroeder carded a final-round 78 to finish tied for 39th overall with a 241. Freshman J.P. Landry recorded his best round of the tournament with a seven-over par 79. He finished the tournament tied for 42nd, only one stroke back of Schroeder.
