
`Jacks Fifth After First Day at SLC

CANTON, Texas - CANTON, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team shot an opening round 304 and currently stands in fifth place after the first day of competition at the Southland Conference Championships. Southwest Texas currently leads the field with a 296.
Freshman Trevor Sauntry led the Lumberjacks with a one-over par 73 after the first round. Sauntry currently sits in a tie for third and is only three strokes off Lamar's Chris Stroud, who finished the day with a two-under par 70. Senior Jason Alexander shot a three-over 75 and is currently tied for 10th place. Senior Brent Gurley and junior Walt Schroeder are tied for 26th place with a six-over par 78. J.P. Landry is fifth for the Lumberjacks with an eight-over par 80.
The Lumberjacks return to action Tuesday for the second round from the Twin Lakes Golf Course in Canton, Texas.
