The 'Jacks picked up a split of a Southland Conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon in Lake Charles, Louisiana, dropping game one by a score of 6-3, but winning game two by a 6-4 count.
SFA (5-25, 1-4) rebounded in game two and pounded out 11 hits in handing the Cowgirls (10-13, 4-1) their first conference loss of 2002. Brooke Chandler went 3-4 with a homer and four RBIs for the 'Jacks. She also scored a pair of runs.
Devin Cobb picked up the win allowing four runs on 11 hits in 4.1 innings of work.
In game one, SFA trailed 6-0 going into the top of the fourth inning before pushing across its first run of the afternoon on a Mimi Van Ryn homerun. The 'Jacks added a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning following singles by Kacie Lancaster, Devin Cobb and Mimi Van Ryn loaded the bases. Ragen Rutherford then doubled to drive in a pair of runs, but the 'Jacks couldn't get any closer as a ground out the mound ended the threat.
McNeese State and SFA wrap up the three game series Monday with a single game starting at noon.
