Softball Has Tough Weekend in Houston

The SFA softball team (3-10) saw its losing streak extended to ten games with five more losses at the University of Houston Invitational this weekend in Houston. SFA has dropped ten straight after three straight wins to open the season. SFA also lost the services of infielder Christa Hargrove with a hand injury, as she joins OF Jaime Brown and IF Ragen Rutherford on the injured list.
SFA opened the Houston tournament with an 8-0 loss to Ohio State. The Buckeyes scored eight runs on 14 hits in shutting out the 'Jacks for the fifth time in their last six games. Traci Moore (1-3) was touched for six runs on 10 hits in 2.1 innings of work in tacking the loss.
Baylor was next up on the schedule for SFA and scored seven runs on only seven hits as the Bears were aided by three SFA errors in beating the 'Jacks 7-2. Devin Cobb (1-2) took the loss as she worked 4.0 innings, allowing three runs on on three hits, only one of the runs was earned. SFA did manage to take advantage of four Baylor errors in scoring two runs, but could not manage a hit of Baylor starter, Katie Decker.
Game three of the tournament saw the 'Jacks take on a conference opponent for the fourth time this season, with Sam Houston edging SFA by a 5-4 score. Sam Houston led 5-1 going into the sixth inning before the 'Jacks fought back with three runs inthe sixth to pull within one. Devin Cobb was 2-3 in the game with a home run and three RBIs. Kristin Nolan (0-3) took the loss for SFA, working 5.0 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits. She struck out three and walked one batter.
Traci Moore came back and started the fourth game of the tournament against the tournament hosts, Houston. The Cougars quickly jumped on Moore and scored six runs in the first inning on seven hits. Devin Cobb came on in relief and pitched 4.0 innings, allowing seven more runs on six more hits. SFA was shutout on three hits.
SFA wrapped up the tournament by once again taking on the Cougars with UH handing the 'Jacks their tenth straight loss, 11-3. Devin Cobb (1-3) worked five innings in the start, giving up 10 runs on 14 hits to the powerful Houston line-up. Kristin Nolan worked an inning in relief, allowing one run on one hit. SFA scored two runs on three hits in the game with Cobb's batt once again leading the way. Cobb was 1-2 with an RBI and one run scored.
The 'Jacks return to action this weekend with a scheduled doubleheader in Waco with Baylor before starting play in the Baylor Green And Gold Tournament Saturday morning.
