Lumberjacks Finish Eighth at Gulf Coast Classic

GULFPORT, Miss. - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team fell four places Tuesday in the Gulf Coast Classic. The Lumberjacks shot a 906 (300-305-301), only three strokes back of seventh-place South Alabama. Tournament-host Southern Mississippi won the tournament with an 889.
Freshman Trevor Sauntry led the Lumberjacks in the final round with a one-under-par 71 and finished the tournament with a 218. He finished fourth overall. Junior Walt Schroeder shot a three-over-par 147 on the day to finish with a 226. He was 22nd overall. Sophomore Jeremy Ice finished tied for 33rd with his 230. Senior Jason Alexander, who began the day tied for sixth, struggled to a 162 on Tuesday and finished the tournament tied for 55th overall. Freshman J. P. Landry closed out the scoring for SFA with his 243 (83-81-79).
The Lumberjacks return to action Monday at the SWT Intercollegiate in Victoria, Texas.
