LAMAR LEADS ULM/FRED MARX GOLF INVITATIONAL
MONROE - Consistency is how you could sum up Lamar University's day at the Second Annual ULM./Fred Marx Invitational as the Cardinals teamed for a blistering two-round team total of 557, 19-under par after 36 holes.
Despite the strong morning winds the Cardinals attacked the par 72, 6,839 yard Bayou Desiard Country Club in the afternoon round teaming to hit 18-under par after hitting one-under in the morning round.
Lamar golfers claimed the top three spots on the leaderboard with Mark Cooper in first place after shooting rounds of 71 and 64 for a 135 total. Cooper's 9-under par included 11 birdies and one eagle.
Jason Alexander of Stephen F. Austin had a hole-in-one on the 180-yard par three, 17th hole. It was the first ace ever in the brief two year history of the event. Tim Speichert was the top finisher for the 'Jacks with rounds of 75-73, and is in a tie for 17th. Alexander shot rounds of 77-75 and is in 33rd place entering Tuesday's final round.
Other SFA scores were: Trevor Sauntry, 80-77, Chris Vadner, 82-77, and Walt Schroeder, 80-82.
Defending champion Arkansas-Little Rock is in fourth with a team score of 585.
The final 18 holes will begin Tuesday at 8 a.m.
