Seven members of the 2001 Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team have been named members of the 2001 All-Southland Football League first or second team. Four Lumberjacks earned first team honors, while three others were named second team members in a vote of league head coaches.
Anthony Dingle, a junior wide receiver from Tyler, earned his first ever All-Southland Football League selection after leading the Lumberjacks in both receptions and receiving yardage. Dingle finished the season with 54 catches for 914 yards and six touchdowns. He was second in the SFL in receptions per game and in receiving yardage. Joining Dingle on the first team offense is senior offensive lineman Chuck Thompson of Haltom City. The three year starter for the 'Jacks started all 11 games this season and the last 22 straight for the 'Jacks.
Two Lumberjack defensive standouts also earned first team All-SFL honors with safety David Crocker leading the way. The Killeen sophomore led the team with 112 total tackles in only ten games played this season. Crocker became the first Lumberjack since Jeremiah Trotter in 1997, to record more than 100 tackles in a season. He also recorded a season high 27 tackles against Northwestern State.
Defensive end Michael Adams was also named as a member of the first team defensive unit after earning second team honors as a sophomore in 2000. Adams led all SFL defensive linemen in both tackles and tackles for losses. He also added four sacks and a blocked punt on the season.
Senior quarterback Wes Pate also earned Southland Football League Offensive Player of the Year honors and second team All-SFL honors for the third straight year. The Arp native passed for 2,626 yards and 19 touchdowns this year, leading the league in passing yardage per game. His 2,626 yard total was the second highest single season passing total in SFA history. Joining Pate on the second team offensive unit is sophomore kicker Ryan Rossner. Rossner, from Metairie, Louisiana, finished the season connecting on 14 of 26 field goal attempts. He was also 24 of 28 on extra point attempts.
Braxton O'Banion, a junior transfer from Houston, also earned second team defensive honors after starting the last six straight games for the 'Jacks. O'Banion finished the season with 34 tackles, two interceptions and five passes defended. He also returned both punts and kickoffs for the 'Jacks, averaging 9.0 ypr on punts and 22.0 ypr on kickoffs for the season.
