Stephen F. Austin junior linebacker Jared Williams has added another honor following his outstanding performance at McNeese State last week. Monday, The Sports Network announced that Williams had been named the Division I-AA National Defensive Player of the Week in helping the 'Jacks to a 26-14 win over McNeese State.
Williams, a junior from Bridge City, has started the last two games for the 'Jacks at middle linebacker, filling in for the injured Reggie Williams. Against McNeese State, the 6-2, 240 pound junior recorded 19 tackles, 12 unassisted and also picked off a McNeese State pass early in the third quarter which he returned for a touchdown. The interception return for a touchdown was one of three on the night for the Lumberjacks.
SFA returns to action this week as they host #21 ranked Jacksonville State in a 2:00 p.m. Homecoming match-up at Homer Bryce Stadium.
