
'Jacks Finish Tenth At Stonebridge

McKinney, Texas -- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team slipped to tenth place at the SMU Intercollegiate Golf Tournament held at McKinney's Stonebridge Country Club, following a final round of 303, for a three round total of 892, 28 over par. The 'Jacks entered the final day of play in seventh play, but fell back as three teams moved ahead of them. SMU won the event with a thirteen under par total of 851.
Senior Tim Speichert led the charge for the Lumberjacks with an eleventh place finish following rounds of 71-71-76, for a three round total of two over par, 218. It is Speichert's second straight top 15 finish this fall.
Warren, Texas freshman J.P. Landry also turned in a strong showing in his first collegiate golf tournament, firing a three round total of five over par, 221. Landry shot rounds of 75-72-74 on the 7,085 yard, par 72 Stonebridge Country Club.
Rounding out things for the Lumberjacks were newcomers Trevor Sauntry with a 28th place finish (73-74-78, 225) and John Powers, who finished in a tie for 65th with rounds of 77-78-75.
Jeremy Ice was the fifth player for the 'Jacks and shot rounds of 75-83-84 to finish in a tie for 84th.
Next up for the Lumberjacks will be the SFA Crown Classic at Lufkin's Crown Colony Country Club on October 15 and 16.
