Ladyjack Tennis Beats Sam Houston State

Huntsville, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack tennis team continued the 2001 fall season Monday by defeating Sam Houston State, 11-7, in the first annual Super Dual in Huntsville, Texas. The matchconsisted of twelve singlesand six doubles matches.
The Ladyjacks stormed out to an early 5-1 lead when they won five of the first six singles matches. The Ladyjacks tacked on another point to go up 6-1 after the team of freshmen Tracy Moore (Katy, Texas) and Rebekah Welsh (Peaster, Texas) won their doubles match to close out the morning session. Sophomore Jessica Beauchene (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) defeated SHSU'sIvette Andrade, 6-2, 7-6, and then returned that afternoon to drop the Bearkats' Diala Ammar 7-5, 6-2, putting SFA over the top with 10 victories.
"This was the first time we tried this format and itturned out to be an intense day of tennis," said SFA head coach Bret Arrant. "Each player was on the court battling it out for an average of six hours during the day. It was a great way to see if our team was in top physical condition."
SFA picked up its 11th point when Moore beat Kim Jordan, 7-6, 5-7, 10-7. Moore and Jordansplit the first two sets thenTracy rallied to pull out the third set tie breaker, 10-7, after being down 6-2.
"We will play the Bearkats again in 2002-03, but next time it will be here in Nacogdoches. We will try to schedule itthe week of the SFA/SHSU football game to get the rivalry going before the men take the field."
