Crown Classic Results - Texas Tech Wins, SFA 14th

LUFKIN, Texas -- The Texas Tech Red Raiders claimed the team title of the 2001 SFA Crown Classic Tuesday by a single stroke over runner-up Lamar University. Tech shot a closing round 312 to hang on to the one stroke win over Lamar, which shot a final round 309 in windy conditions on the state's #1 ranked golf course.
The Red Raiders hung on to their second round lead in spite of their final round scoring because Southern Mississippi, which entered the final round in second place shot a final round 310. Tim Yelverton shot rounds of 72-70-73 to claim the medalist honors with David Bolen of Texas Tech three shots back following rounds of 77-66-75, for a three round total of two over par, 218.
The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team finished the event in fourteenth place following a three round total of 307-319-316 = 942. SFA was paced by Tim Speichert who finished in 29th with rounds of 73-77-81, 231. Jason Alexander finished in a tie for 43rd place with rounds of 75-83-76, 234.
