
Pate Earns League Honor

PLANO, Texas - Senior quarterback Wes Pate was named Southland Football League Offensive Player of the Week for his part in the Lumberjacks' 44-37 double-overtime win over Jacksonville State Saturday at Homer Bryce Stadium. Trailing 30-17 going into the fourth quarter, the 'Jacks scored twice on fourth quarter drives to tie the score at 30-30 and force overtime. In the extra period, SFA scored twice on Pate touchdown passes to get the win. Pate helped Stephen F. Austin to its fourth straight win to remain perfect in Southland Football League play by throwing five touchdown passes. Pate finished the night completing 24-of-38 passes for 271 yards and no interceptions. Pate was 7-for-9 for 95 yards on the final drive of regulation to tie the game and 5-for-5 in overtime with two of his touchdowns.
The player of the week honor is the first for Pate of the 2001 season.
