SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) - Jason Griffin threw for 204 yards and three touchdowns as Southwest Texas State beat Stephen F. Austin 38-21 on Saturday.
The Bobcats (6-4, 4-2 Southland Football League) secured their first winning season since 1991, when they went 7-4. Derrick Blaylock ran for 142 yards on 21 carries for the Lumberjacks (5-5, 2-4).
Leading 24-21 at halftime, Southwest Texas took control of the game with an 11-play, 65-yard drive to open the second half. Lee Davis scored the second of his two touchdowns on a 6-yard run.
Griffin was 16-of-21 with an interception. He threw scoring passes of 48, 15 and 11 yards.
Stephen F. Austin's Wes Pate was 11-of-21 for 192 yards and three touchdowns. He had two interceptions.
The Lumberjacks took the early lead when Pate threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Will Bowers. The Bobcats answered with Davis' first touchdown, a 30-yard run.
Pate threw two more touchdown passes in the second quarter, including a 64-yarder to Lawrence Hamilton. Griffin, meanwhile, had scoring throws to Stephen Ross and Tyrone Darden.
