Felipe Valencia joins the SFA Lumberjack Track and Field staff as an assistant coach. He will oversee the Men’s and Women’s Throws program.
Coach Valencia previously coached at University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio from 2021-2024 where he guided athletes to the first ever Men’s team titles in school history. Valencia led student-athletes to break 10 out of the 12 throwing school records under his leadership. In his 3 years at UIW he had multiple Southland Conference Champions in Shot Put, Weight Throw, and Javelin.
Valencia volunteered at UTRGV with the throws program in 2020-2021 where he was mentored by throws coach Brad Foote.
Personal
As a student-athlete, Valencia attended University of Houston competing on the track and field team from 2015-2019 and was a part of numerous Conference Championship titles and 3 times Conference Champion in the Shot Put himself. Valencia competed for the Mexican National Team from 2016-2021 and was selected to represent Team Mexico in the 2016 NACAC U-23 Championship in El Salvador where he finished 5th place.
Valencia holds a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and Master’s degree in Hospitality Management from the University of Houston and a Master’s degree in Sport Management from University of the Incarnate Word.
