Familiar voices to present Lumberjack action across radio, ESPN+ broadcasts
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin Athletics has announced broadcasting and radio crew assignments for the upcoming 2025-26 athletic season. Among the updates includes longtime SFA football and men's basketball radio announcer Rob Meyers transitioning into the ESPN+ booth for football games, while Chase Merrell will take over the radio broadcasts of Lumberjack football and men's basketball.
Meyers has been involved with Stephen F. Austin for over 40 years. He joined the department in 1997 as the sports information director and has held roles in the business office and as Associate Athletic Director for Business and Facilities until his retirement in 2023. He has served as the Voice of the Lumberjacks since 2005.
"It's nearly impossible to follow in the footsteps of Rob Meyers—his voice is synonymous with SFA Football and Basketball," noted David Warner, General Manager of Lumberjack Sports Properties. "But if there's anyone prepared to step into that role with confidence, character, and capability, it's Chase Merrell. We're incredibly excited about what Chase brings to the table and look forward to the future with great optimism."
Merrell is a passionate sports broadcaster and a proud graduate of SFA. After years of high school broadcasting, he made the jump to the collegiate level during his senior year of college, calling SFA basketball games on ESPN+. Since then, Merrell has expanded his presence across SFA Athletics and Lumberjack Nation, covering basketball, soccer, track and field, softball, and baseball. In 2024, he served as the radio voice for SFA women's basketball and now takes over SFA men's basketball and football for the legendary Meyers.
"I am incredibly excited to be covering Lumberjack football and basketball," remarked Merrell. "I have listened to Rob Meyers for many years, and his passion for the game and connection with the fans have always inspired me. I am truly honored to carry forward the legacy he's built, and I'm eager to bring my own energy to every broadcast."
Cade Haak will take over SFA women's basketball radio duties with Merrell's appointment to the men's bench. Greg Miller will continue to serve as Ladyjack Volleyball's play-by-play voice with former SFA standout Brittany Castledine serving as color analyst on ESPN+ broadcasts. Haak will handle soccer broadcasts alongside Richard Meisel.
