
Lumberjacks Complete Victor Lopez Classic

HOUSTON, Texas - This weekend, the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks Track and Field team completed the Victor Lopez Classic, hosted by the University of Rice.
On the men's side, Elkana Kipruto continued his excellent season, finishing third overall in the 5,000 meters. His run was the second-best outdoor time in SFA school history. Wyatt Hoover also had a successful weekend, finishing fifth in the steeplechase. His time of 9:07 was the eighth-best in SFA history. Jarvis Anderson dominated the 400-meter hurdles, winning the event with a time of 51.13. Bryson Williams and Anderson placed first and second in the men's triple jump with jumps of 15.65 meters and 15.45 meters. Finally, the men's 4x100 meter relay team placed second with a time of 40.38. That season-opening time was the best by an SFA squad in the last four years.
On the women's side of things, Valentine Jemutai had a successful weekend, placing second in the women's 5,000 meters with a time of 16:56.03. Sharon Boyani placed third in that event with a time of 16:56.54. Kennedy Swann picked up the win in the 100 meters, finishing first with a time of 11.77. That time was a season-best for her. Lastly, the women won the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 45.66.
Overall, Head Coach Robert Hansen was pleased with how his squad performed, stating, "Really proud of our team. We had a great weekend of weather and took advantage. Across all phases of our program, we had nearly 30 athletes with lifetime PRs and that's astounding!"
The Lumberjacks will now travel to California to compete in the Stanford Invitational from April 3rd to April 5th.
