Kapel Earns Second SLC Runner of the Week honor, Jemutai Receives Honorable Mention

SFA duo recognized for outstanding efforts over past couple of weeks
Jemutai's efforts over the past couple of weeks has helped the SFA Women to a No. 7 ranking in the latest South Central Region rankings. Most recently on the course, Jemutai paced the SFA Women for a fourth-straight meet at the Arturo Barrios Invitational in College Station and did so with a top 10 showing in the 311-runner field. She placed ninth overall in 19:52.3; 56 seconds back of the top individual finisher and the fourth-fastest non-Power 4 time. The Lumberjack Women placed fifth and knocked off seven SLC foes as well as MR #8 Oklahoma, GLR #8 Ohio State and Texas Tech among other G5 and P4 programs.
Two weeks earlier she paced the 'Jacks for the third-straight meet with a sixth place finish among the 269-runner field at the Chile Pepper Festival hosted by the University of Arkansas. Her 5k finish time of 16:26.7 stands as a personal best and SFA female 5K program record. She helped SFA to a third place team finish; the program's highest ever at the Chile Pepper Festival, and the 'Jacks also beat South Central No. 7 Rice by an overall minute.
Kapel has helped lead the 'Jacks to a program-best No. 4 ranking in the latest South Central Region rankings.
Most recently, Kapel finished as the top Lumberjack for the second time this season with an 8K time of 23:02.7 for a sixth-place finish in the 323-runner field at the Arturo Barrios Invitational in College Station. The 'Jacks' team finish was better than Power 4 programs GLR #6 Ohio State (111), MR #10 Texas Tech (185), SCR #8 TCU (255) and SCR #10 Houston (333). SFA placed just a dozen points back of SR #3 Middle Tennessee State.
Kapel was the second 'Jack to cross at the Chile Pepper Festival with a 16th place time of 24:22.5.

The 'Jacks are back in action in two weeks for the Southland Conference Championships on Halloween morning in Natchitoches, Louisiana. SFA performed well at the SLC Preview Meet in mid-September and will head back through the Sabine National Forest eyeing hardware.
