
The 2024 Ladyjacks Season in Review

The 2024 Beach Volleyball season for SFA saw the Ladyjacks complete their fifth season of beach volleyball for SFA while completing their second season in the Sun Belt Conference, which added SFA to the conference for the 2023 season. The Ladyjacks finished the season with a 10-21 overall record while going 0-7 in conference play and played a gauntlet of a schedule that included matches against Oregon, Utah, TCU, Texas, and eventual Sun Belt champion Georgia State.
The Ladyjacks season got started with a bang as first-year head coach Madi Wilkerson earned her first career head coaching victory defeating the Oregon Ducks 3-2 in the Ladyjacks first match of the season in the Green Wave Invitational hosted by Tulane. In the opening tournament, the 'Jacks would claim wins over Spring Hill College (3-2) and New Orleans (3-2) to open the season with a strong 3-1 record.
Following their season-opening tournament, the Ladyjacks returned home to host their home opener playing two matches each against McNeese and Utah in which SFA went 2-2 on the weekend including a clean 5-0 sweep of McNeese on day one of the tournament improving to 5-3 overall on the year. Following the home opener tournament, the Ladyjacks traveled to Fort Worth to participate in the Horned Frog Challenge where SFA put up valiant efforts all weekend but were unable to come away with a win and saw their record fall to 5-7 on the year.
Midseason saw the Ladyjacks travel to Louisiana to play in the SELU Tournament where the 'Jacks went 2-2 on their weekend tournament with a nail-biting 3-2 wins over Southeastern Louisiana University and a 4-1 win over Houston Christian University. The next weekend saw the Ladyjacks compete in the Sunbelt Mid-Season Tournament where they played competitively all weekend but were unable to come away with a win on the weekend.
SFA continued their lengthy road schedule into the end of the season as they would compete in the Corpus Tournament which saw them lose nail-biting games to UTEP and Texas, while ending the tournament with a 4-1 victory over UT Martin. The Ladyjacks closed out their home schedule for the season with matches against HCU, Texas A&M-Kingsville, and University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. On senior day against University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, the Ladyjacks sent their two graduating seniors Abigail Elder and Ariana Pagan out on a high note with a clean 5-0 sweep over the Crusaders in their home finale. The Ladyjacks finished their season with a pair of midweek tune-up games against HCU and Tarleton State in which the 'Jacks finished their regular season strong with a 4-1 victory over Tarleton State.
The end of the season saw SFA participate in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament where they entered as the eighth seed and drew a matchup against the first seed Panthers of Georgia State where Georgia State would claim a 5-0 win. SFA's second matchup of the tournament saw them pitted against College of Charleston where SFA fought courageously until the final pair but ultimately fell 3-2 to close out their second season in the Sun Belt Conference.
On the season, Madison Hall and Katherine Hansen tied for the team lead in wins with 18 apiece, while Abigail Elder (14 wins), Elaina Amador (14 wins), Ansley Gulledge (13 wins), Sophia Myers (12 wins), and Meagan Ledbetter (10 wins) all finished the season with double-digit wins on the year. Madison Hall and Katherine Hansen formed a dynamic duo this season for the Ladyjacks as the duo held the best record for a pairing on the team this season holding an 18-13 overall record for a .581 winning percentage. In the first flight this season, Hall and Hansen were an effective and efficient duo as they held an 18-13 record in the first flight this season. In the second flight, Abigail Elder and Elaina Amador teamed up to form a solid pairing as they held a 12-15 record as a pair in the second flight. In the third flight, Ansley Gulledge recorded a team-high eight wins, while Meagan Ledbetter led the team with eight wins of her own in the fourth flight. To round it all out for SFA, Sophia Myers led the team with eight wins in the fifth flight this season. Following the end of the season, freshman Ansley Gulledge was named a part of the SFA Top 23 Freshman for her work with Jack Walkers on campus.
