
SFA Athletics Department Announces 2022 Hall of Fame Class

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Athletics Hall of Fame class of 2022, after a previous postponement, will be inducted on February 18th with a brunch in the Twilight Ballroom. The honorees will also be recognized at halftime of the Stephen F. Austin Men's Basketball game against the University of Texas at Arlington. Seats to the induction ceremony and brunch are available to all SFA Letterwinners and will be made available to the public for $10. The members of the 2022 class include Ana Rodriquez (Track and Field/Cross Country), Laura Cramer (Volleyball), Melissa Peay Gregg (Basketball), and Steve McCarty (Former Athletic Director)
Biographical Information on each honoree may be found below:
Ana Rodriguez
A two-time Southland Conference Cross Country Athlete of the Year (2002-2003), Two-time Southland Conference Cross Country Champion (2002-2003), and 2005 NCAA 10K Meter Qualifier, Rodriquez competed on the SFA Cross Country teams along with the SFA Indoor and Outdoor Track Teams. She was a member of Championship teams in Cross Country (2003-2004), the Indoor Championship team (2005), and the Outdoor Championship team (2003). Contributing to the championships won by these teams, Rodriquez would win the 3K and 5K for the Indoor team in (2003, 2005) and for the Outdoor team, she would win the 5K in (2003, 2004, 2005), and the 10K (2003, 2005). Rodriguez was instrumental in the success of the Cross Country and Track and Field teams during her tenure at SFA.
Laura Cramer
Laura Cramer is a two-time graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University (2007 & 2011). Laura was elected 1st Team All Southland Conference three times (2004-2006), along with being named Southland Conference Player of the Year as a Junior (2005). During her time at SFA, the Ladyjack Volleyball team experienced unprecedented success. Cramer helped lead the team to win three Southland Conference Championships, and wrapped up her career playing a vital role in the Ladyjacks defeating the University of Alabama in the 2006 NCAA Tournament.
Melissa Peay Gregg
Melissa played four years for Coach Gary Blair, SFA Hall of Famer. During Melissa's time at SFA, the Ladyjacks owned the Southland Conference. The team would win the Southland Conference title every year from 1989-1992, and make three Sweet 16 appearances. With a record of 109-17, the Ladyjacks would rank in the top 12 Nationally for home game attendance. In 1991 they would take the University of Virginia, #1 team in the nation, to the brink of elimination in the second round of the NCAA tournament, eventually losing in the final seconds 74-72. Melissa played a key role on those teams. She would be selected All Southland Conference three years (1990-1992), including multiple Southland Conference player of the week honors. From her Freshmen year, when she shot 63% from the floor to her Senior year, when she set a then NCAA Tournament record for most assists in a game (11 vs Creighton 3/22/1992), Melissa contributed to the phenomenal success of Ladyjack Basketball.
Steve McCarty
Coach McCarty is a two-time graduate of Stephen F. Austin (1965 & 1970). McCarty worked in the athletics department at SFA for 21 years, including the final 15 as athletics director. He retired from SFA on August 31, 2005, but would be awarded the title of Athletic Director Emeritus in July of 2014. He would also serve on the SFA Board of Regents from 2009 to 2015, including an election as Chair of the Board of Regents from 2013-2015. During his time in Nacogdoches, Lumberjack and Ladyjack athletics experienced success across the board. Lumberjack and Ladyjack athletic teams earned two NCAA playoff berths in football, three NCAA Volleyball Championship appearances and two NIVC appearances, 14 NCAA Women's Basketball Championship appearances, an appearance in the NCAA Men's Golf Regional, three Southland Conference soccer titles, an NCAA Soccer Championship appearance and six SLC cross country titles, including the four men's championships, two women's track and field titles and one men's track and field title. SFA athletics saw an overall upgrade in its facilities during McCarty's last decade. It was during that that time that SFA built the Jimmy W. Murphy Wellness Center and a new athletic training and academic center. He was recognized nationally for accomplishments at SFA when he received the Gen. Robert R. Neyland Outstanding Athletic Director Award from the All-American Football Foundation.
