NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Robert Hansen has been named Stephen F. Austin's Director of Track & Field/Cross Country, SFA Director of Athletics Ryan Ivey announced Tuesday.
"I wish Hadrien well with his new opportunity at Iowa, and thank him for his service to SFA over the past four years helping our Track and Field program to continue to win championships and excel at a high level. While we will miss Hadrien, I am excited to be able to elevate Rob to our Director of Track & Field/Cross Country," Ivey Said. "Rob has been with us for a little over a year and has already proven himself to be a valuable asset to our department, and especially our Track and Field & Cross Country programs. I am confident about our future and look forward to watch Rob and our programs continue to grow and elevate."
Hansen is excited to lead the Lumberjacks and Ladyjacks to new heights.
"I want to thank Mr. Ivey for his trust and faith in my ability to lead our Track & Field/Cross Country programs. My family and I love Nacogdoches, and we're excited to know that we're going to be a part of this community for a long time," Hansen said. "I am grateful to Hadrien for the moments we spent together as co-Head, but now I will turn my attention to serving our student-athletes and this fine University. I would be remiss to not also appreciate Coach Olson's mentorship. I wouldn't be here without his guidance!"
Hansen, a native of Wisconsin, joined SFA after serving as an assistant coach at UC-Riverside for five seasons. At UCR, he coached 13 All-Big West honorees, five USA Junior National qualifiers, and nine NCAA West Regional qualifiers. From 2013-16, Hansen was an assistant at the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley, where he also concentrated on distance and middle distance runners. Hansen led his student-athletes to 19 All-WAC performances.
Hansen spent the 2012-13 season at the University of Arkansas as a volunteer assistant coach. He was on staff when the Razorbacks placed 18th at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, 4th place finish at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, and an 8th place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The indoor team also won the SEC Championship. Hansen gained valuable experience observing and working with multiple All-SEC, All-American, USA Qualifiers and World Team Qualifiers.
Hansen Also spent time as a GA at both McNeese State and UL-Monroe from 2011-2012.
Coach Hansen, still an avid runner, resides in Nacogdoches with his wife, Lucy, and their two children William (3) and Victoria (1). They have an Australian Shepard named Ariel as well.
