Huntsville, Texas – Gavin Kensmil's 13 points were not enough Saturday afternoon as the Lumberjacks fell 49-41 at Sam Houston State.
SFA had the lead, 35-34, with 4:46 to play, but the Bearkats closed the game on a 12-6 run to pick up the win.
In a tightly contested first half, Sam Houston took a 13 point lead, 25-12, into the half, only to see the Lumberjacks fight back and pull even at 28 with 10:21 left to play. Sam Houston responded with a 6-0 run only to see SFA scrap back and tie the game at 34 with 5:42 to play on a Calvin Solomon bucket setting up the closing Sam Houston run.
Kensmil was the lone Lumberjack in double figures. He also tallied a game-high eight rebounds.
SFA will return to action back home in the William R. Johnson Coliseum with Lamar at 6:30 p.m.
