NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Former Lumberjack Davonte Fitzgerald will be returning to The Piney Woods for the 2021-22 season as part of the SFA Basketball staff, according to a Tuesday afternoon release from head coach Kyle Keller. Fitzgerald, who played for the 'Jacks during the 2018-19 season, will serve as a Graduate Assistant on Keller's staff.
"We are very excited to bring Davonte back to SFA to be a part of our coaching staff", said Keller. "Davonte was a very good player here and a terrific teammate. I am thrilled to combine his personality, knowledge and feel for the game to our current staff. He has been coached by some terrific coaches during his collegiate and professional career, and I fully expect him to be a fantastic addition to our program."
Fitzgerald, who originally hails from Atlanta, Georgia, was a strong contributor for the 'Jacks during his lone campaign in Nacogdoches, averaging 11.3 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. His most memorable game was a 32-point outburst against Louisiana Tech in a tightly contested affair, followed later in the season by a 29-point game against Central Arkansas.
"I am so grateful to be coming back to Nacogdoches to rejoin the SFA Men's Basketball family", said Fitzgerald. "I am looking forward to investing my time and experience from my playing career back into our players and this program. It's an honor to have the opportunity to be back with Coach Keller, someone that I have known for so long, and respect so much."
Fitzgerald will assist the coaching staff with scouting, player development and academic success.
