NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- The SFA Athletic department earned a gold medal and a silver medal as part of the 2020-21 NACMA Best of Awards, announced by the organization on Thursday during a virtual awards ceremony. SFA earned a gold medal in the category of "Digital Video" for its submission of the video elements announcing the transition to the WAC, and a silver in the category of "Multi-Platform Branding Campaign" for the rollout of the new SFA logo family.
"It' always fun to be recognized by your peers for quality work", said SFA Director of Athletics Ryan Ivey. " I am incredibly proud of our external staff for performing at a high level during unprecedented times. Despite the challenges faced, we were still able to move our department forward through tactical business initiatives that allowed us to set the foundation for long term growth and stability. This is a true example of a unit living by our core values of innovation and teamwork, and these awards are direct results of their terrific execution. I can't thank them, our student-athletes, coaches and staff enough for believing in and trusting our external processes."
The WAC announcement video featured a "breaking news" style studio setting, wherein an announcement on the transition to the WAC was read aloud as a news briefing. It then transitioned into a voiceover from Dr. Michara Delaney-Fields over highlights from Southland Conference competition over the years. The final line of the video stated that "we are not here to participate, we are here to take over."

The refresh of SFA's brand marks included a revision of the iconic "shape of Texas" primary logo, as well as the addition of secondary and tertiary marks, a wordmark and Lumberjack/Ladyjack specific branding. The logo family features elements that stay true to the SFA brand, with the Texas star and pine trees featured through the logo family. As part of the rollout, a series of native videos produced and curated from SFA student-athletes and fans were collected to tease the release and build excitement amongst the remainder of the fanbase. At the time of the reveal, a complete batch of new social media headers and avatars was rolled out for each of SFA's sport accounts, and word was spread through media channels about the shift as well as a feature story on sfajacks.com.
