AVCA Top Thirty Under 30 Beach List
LEXINGTON, Kentucky –
Head Beach Volleyball Coach Alex Luna has been slated a spot on the 2021 Thirty Under 30 Beach List, the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced today.
"This new award was created in 2021 to honor up-and-coming beach coaching talent at all levels of the sport. These rising stars are hard-working and passionate about teaching, and they demonstrate dedication to the fast-growing sport of beach volleyball." (AVCA)
Under Coach Luna, SFA finished its first complete season with a 10-14 record, highlighted by a ranking of No. 39 in the Pablo Beach Rankings. The 'Jacks grabbed the No. 3 seed in the inaugural 2021 Southland Conference Beach Volleyball Tournament, able to notch a pair of wins over No. 6 seed Southeastern and No. 2 seed Houston Baptist for a third place overall finish.
"A big congratulations to Alex on a well deserved award," said Director of Athletics Ryan Ivey. "Since arriving in Nacogdoches, Alex has done a good job of leading our beach volleyball program from its conception. He was able to lead our team to the cusp of our conference championship in its first full season of competition. The future is bright for our beach program and I thank Alex for his efforts and leadership."
Before his arrival at SFA, Luna began his craft as an assistant beach and indoor volleyball coach at San Jose State University. Luna has made a presence on the national side too, as he previously coached the U19 Women's National Training Team and was selected as an assistant coach for the U17 Boys National Training Team.

"In less than 2 years Alex and his staff have developed a program that truly embodies SFA athletics' core principles of accountability, excellence, integrity, innovation, and teamwork.
