FRISCO, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack women's tennis team gained a pair on the 2021 Southland Conference Women's Tennis Second Team in No. 2 Doubles, Annie Walker and Paula Cerda. The pair has been honored alongside Lucy Furness, who earned a spot with her persistent No. 4 singles play.
Walker and Cerda displayed consistency all season long, notching a 9-3 record at No. 2 singles against Southland Conference opponents.
"Paula and Annie, did a tremendous job this season on the doubles court, they are so solid and won a ton of matches," said Head Coach Erin Scott. "Getting voted to All-Conference is a huge accomplishment and I am very proud of both of them."
The duo recorded victories against three of the top five No. 2 singles pairs in the SLC, including co-champion Sam Houston, who the Ladyjacks will face in the first round of the 2021 Southland Conference Women's Tennis Championship on Friday.
Not to mention, the pair ended the regular season on a six-match win streak featured by the conference championship clinching matches against Southeastern Louisiana and McNeese on the road last weekend.
In non-conference play, Walker and Cerda defeated Alcorn State, Grambling State, Louisiana Tech, Texas State and University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
SFA will take on No. 1 seed Sam Houston in the 2021 Southland Conference Women's Tennis Championship on Friday at 2:00 p.m. in Beaumont.
