FRISCO, Texas – Freshman Lucy Furness has been honored a spot on the 2021 Southland Conference Women's Tennis Third-Team for her flourishing No. 4 Singles performance in league play. Furness, a Cleguerec, France native, led the Ladyjacks in total wins this season as a freshman, going 12-3 overall.
Furness especially delivered while competing at the No. 4 Singles spot, finishing the season at 7-2 in SLC matches. She picked up victories over Lamar (6-3, 6-7, 1-7, 7-5), New Orleans (6-2, 6-3), Northwestern State (6-2, 6-4), Sam Houston (6-3, 6-1), Southeastern Louisiana (7-5, 6-4), and McNeese (6-1, 6-4).
"Lucy was so solid for us this season, she won a lot of hard fought matches," said Head Coach Erin Scott. "Getting voted on the All-Conference team is such an honor and there is no one more deserving than Lucy."
The standout freshman came out victorious in her final four matches to help secure the No. 8 seed in the 2021 Southland Conference Women's Tennis Championship, picking up a non-conference triumph over Grambling State earlier this year as well.
SFA will take on No. 1 seed Sam Houston in the 2021 Southland Conference Women's Tennis Championship on Friday at 2:00 p.m. in Beaumont.
