
Lumberjack Basketball Completes Season Sweep of Bears in Conway, 79-66

CONWAY, AR -- The SFA men's basketball team rallied from a hot start by the Bears of Central Arkansas to claim yet a Southland Conference victory and return to the winning column on Monday in a game that was rescheduled due to bad weather. SFA improves to 15-4 on the season and 11-2 in conference play with the victory, which featured a three-point SFA lead at the halftime break before the visitors pulled away for good in the second half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UCA connected on its first eight shots and a pair of free throws to take a 19-7 lead early into the contest, but the 'Jacks would respond with a quick 7-0 run to trim the lead down to 19-15 with 11:29 left to go in the first half. The game would be tied up with six minutes left to go in the half at 26-26 thanks to a jumper by Cameron Johnson. The 'Jacks would close out the half on a 7-1 run to take a 35-32 lead into the halftime intermission on the strength of a Roti Ware trey and free throws from Gavin Kensmil and Johnson.
After the hosts opened the second half with two quick baskets in succession, the 'Jacks started to build out a lead of their own, extending it out to eight points (47-39) on a Charlie Daniels jumper with 14 minutes left to play in the second stanza. After a trey by UCA's Rylan Bergerson cut the lead to four (51-47) with 12:07 left to play, the 'Jacks would not let the hosts get any closer the rest of the way, extending their lead into double-digits with seven minutes left to play and holding that lead for the remainder of the contest.
LEADERS
Cameron Johnson and Roti Ware each chipped in 18 points for SFA, joining Kensmil (14), David Kachelries (11) and Nigel Hawkins (10) in double-digits for the game. Kensmil and Daniels tied for the team lead with six boards apiece, while Kachelries, Johnson and Calvin Solomon each chipped in three assists. Johnson and Solomon each blocked two shots for SFA.
