
Ladyjacks Dominate in WAC Opener at UTRGV

The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks kicked off Western Athletic Conference play in the win column with a road triumph over the UT Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros on Thursday night, 65-50. The 'Jacks secured its ninth double-digit win of the season to move to 10-3, 1-0 WAC. On top of the convincing inaugural WAC victory, Head Coach Mark Kellogg notched win No. 400 in his career as a head coach.
Three Ladyjacks finished in double-figures on the night led by Stephanie Visscher's 18 points, nine rebounds, six assists and two steals. Aiyana Johnson contributed 18 points in the contest, adding eight rebounds, three assists and two blocks. Tasharian Robinson rounded out the scoring as she chipped in 10 points and four steals.
The Vaqueros took a 5-0 lead in the opening moments of the ballgame, but the Ladyjacks answered with a 19-0 run to take a 22-8 lead to wrap up the first quarter. The SFA lead boosted to 20 points early on in the second, where the 'Jacks went into halftime with a 32-16 advantage.
SFA didn't let up for a single stanza to begin the third quarter, as Aiyana Johnson, Visscher and Angel Scott put together some quick offense to complete a 9-2 run to make it 41-18 to make a stamp on the second half. The Vaqueros were able to get within 16 in the fourth quarter, but the 'Jacks held onto a consistent lead throughout.
The Ladyjacks will be back in action on Thursday, January 6th for a matchup with the Abilene Christian Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. in William R. Johnson Coliseum.
