
Kachelries leads ‘Jacks to 87-74 Win Over MTSU to Kick Off Cancun Challenge

Nacogdoches, Texas - Senior guard David Kachelries poured in a team-high 19 points and paced four 'Jacks in double digits in an 87-74 win over Middle Tennesse State Friday night in the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
Kachelries' 19 points came on a 6-of-13 performance from the field with a pair of three-pointers. He also grabbed three rebounds and handed out three assists. Gavin Kensmil followed with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting, while Calvin Solomon and Roti Ware each notch 13 points in the win. Solomon made six of his seven shots while also hauling in a team-high seven rebounds.
The 'Jacks outshot the Blue Raiders 50 percent to 40 percent floor and 55 percent to 20 percent from behind the arc. SFA hit on five of its nine three-pointers while MTSU made good on five of its 24 three-point attempts. The 'Jacks also dominated the glass with a 40-27 rebounding advantage.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half was back and forth until Kensmil converted back-to-back buckets to give the 'Jacks an 18-13 lead at the 11-minute mark. A minute and a half later the lead hit seven points, 22-15, with 9:38 left to play when Jaylin Jackson-Posey drove to the basket and scored.
The SFA lead hit its highest margin of the half, 11 points, 31-20 at the seven-minute mark when Ware drilled a triple. The 'Jacks kept their distance to close out the half taking a 44-34 lead into the break.
MTSU came out of the break and closed the SFA lead down to one, 49-48, at the 13-minute mark, but the 'Jacks answered with a 4-0 run to take a 53-48 lead at the 12-minute mark. MTSU never threatened again in the contest with the 'Jacks pulling away to the 87-74 win.
