Ladyjacks Improve to 7-1 with Pair of Four Set Victories in Mobile on Saturday

MOBILE, Ala. -- The SFA volleyball team continued its strong play in the fall non-conference slate on Saturday, dispatching the Jaguars of South Alabama in a pair of four-set matches in Mobile. SFA won the first two sets in each match before ceding the third set to the hosts and closing out each match in turn with emphatic finishes.
The win improves SFA's record to 7-1 on the season and 2-0 on the road.
MATCH 1 ( 25-18, 25-20, 20-25, 25-13)
In SFA's first match of the day, the Ladyjacks relied on the offensive firepower of freshman Iehlan Bradley and sophomore Peyton Cerny, who totaled 12 and 10 kills, respectively. The duo were ultra-efficient on the offensive end, as Bradley racked up a .571 attack percentage and Cerny totaled .421. Setter Allie Hamsher totaled 17 assists, while Maddy Bouque chipped in 10 helpers as well. Maddelyn Miller recorded 24 digs for the Ladyjacks, while Hamsher recorded eight. The Ladyjacks were buoyed by a total of eight service aces in the match from six different players, and seven blocks as a team, with five different Ladyjacks chipping in multiple blocks.
MATCH 2 ( 25-23, 25-13, 22-25, 25-18)
In SFA's second match against the Jaguars, the 'Jacks ran out to a 5-1 lead in the first set, only to see USA come surging back to take a 10-9 lead thanks to a 7-0 run. From there, the set was a back and forth affair, with the two sides unable to carve out a distinct advantage. SFA would seize the set by winning three of the final four points, including kills by Cerny and Susan Gillett, to take the opening set 25-23.
Reeling from a close loss in the opening set, the Jaguars had little answer for the Ladyjack attack in set two, falling beneath a ruthless Ladyjack attack in which they slammed home 16 kills and hit .500 as a squad. The Ladyjacks also recorded three service aces in the stanza en route to a 25-13 victory and a 2-0 lead in the match.
As they did in the first match of the Day, USA would come back to claim set three and stave off the sweep with a 25-22 victory over the visitors. USA notched 14 kills in the frame.
In the fourth set, SFA built up an eight-point lead midway through the match and got a pair of kills by Bradley to win three of the final four points and earn a 25-16 set victory and a 3-1 victory in the match. Overall, SFA hit .287 in the match and racked up 51 kills.
